On the 16th June 2016 Kolbe held an Open Day to unveil the School Digital Award and Creative Schools Award. These awards are a significant achievement for our pupils. It was a great pleasure to welcome Bernard O’Shea from 2FM to come and unveil our awards. He had a tour around the school and gardens and chatted with staff, pupils and parents.
For our Digital Award we had to show our use of technology through the use of adapted switches, Ipads and computer skills. Technology is a fundamental asset used by the pupils to engage in daily school life through communication, choice-making, requests and yes/no responses. Switches allow the children participate in cookery, music and art.
The Creative Schools Programme encouraged creative learning and thinking which led to us developing a Sensory Garden. Each class took a sense and created their section of the garden. The results are a vegetable patch for taste, a flower garden for smell, a fairy garden for touch and imagination, a mural with bottle tops and mirrors for sight, a climbing structure for movement, along with bird feeders and wind chimes for sound. We now have fantastic garden areas for all our pupils to experience and enjoy.
